Exeter University RFC were the winners of the inaugural SW Rugby 7s tournament, played in Exeter yesterday (July 11th).
The University team won an exciting final at Sandy Park, which also hosted the final leg of the European Grand Prix 7s across the weekend, against 7s circuit regulars the Takapuna Turtles.
Having already won tournaments at Bournemouth and Bristol this summer, the Turtles were undoubtedly favourites but were overcome by an experienced University side three tries to one.
The SW Rugby 7s plate final was also played at Sandy Park, in which North Tawton RFC were beaten by the Royal Marine Marauders four tries to one.
The pool stages of the SW Rugby 7s were held at Exeter University’s Duckes Meadow, where teams from across the South West competed for their chance to play at Sandy Park.
Plans are already afoot for next year’s tournament, which will again run alongside the European tournament at Sandy Park. To register interest in entering please contact email@example.com
